FAQ
Quesn 1: Can we soak urad dal and rice together?
Ans : No. The main purpose of soaking urad dal and rice in a separate container is to grind them separately. The urad dal should be ground finely, its consistency is different from rice flour. If the urad dal is smooth, the dosa will come out smooth and crispy.
Quesn 2: Why do we add fenugreek seeds in dosa?
Ans : Fenugreek seeds are rich in beta glycans. They help in trapping carbon dioxide, which makes the dosa soft.
Quesn 3: Why is poha also added to dosa batter?
Ans : Adding poha or beaten rice to dosa batter makes the batter smooth. Poha is soaked in water and ground with rice while grinding the batter.
Quesn 4: What happens if we add too much urad dal to dosa batter?
The right amount of urad dal and rice should be added to the dosa batter. Since urad dal has a sticky consistency, if it is too much, the dosa will be sticky. Adding rice flour later can balance the amount of both.
